Tupelo, Mississippi

Tupelo Mississippi

Overview

Tupelo is also popular as the Birthplace of Elvis Presley, a music legend who needs little introduction. It is the county seat and the largest city of Mississippi’s Lee County. Though some of the world’s greatest hail from the hilly town, Tupelo is also known to serve as the head office of Lee County’s best attractions, including the interesting HealthWorks! Kids Museum, the astonishing Tupelo Automobile Museum, and the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway. Tupelo’s tourists can stroll through the same countryside explored by Hernando de Soto less than a millennia ago, or join the 100,000 vacationers that explore the modern side of the city yearly.

Tourist Attractions

The modern city stands upon hallowed and ancient grounds. Tupelo is home to the historic and scenic Natchez Trace Parkway, which serves as the headquarters of an elongated national park. The parkway stretches from Nashville to Natchez, Mississippi. Other attractions include the Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery, the Tupelo National Battlefield, and the Tupelo Buffalo Park & Zoo. Apart from buffalos, bears, tigers, and lions, the zoo also takes pride in being the second home to the Tukota, a rare white buffalo. Tourists can get up close to the endangered animals by riding the unique Monster Bison Bus. Animals like giraffes are available for interaction at the petting zoo.

Shopping

Shopping and scouring for antique finds is a fairly popular activity in Tupelo. The Flea Market features fares ranging from puppies and cell phone accessories to crafts and artistic furniture. Thousands of retailers are also present at the Tupelo Furniture Market. The Mall at Barnes Crossing has more than a hundred specialty shops. It is currently one of Northeast Mississippi’s largest shopping venues. The Factory Stores of America on Eason Boulevard sells clothing, shoes, and kitchen items at bargain prices.
